Trento is also the town of the imposing Buonconsiglio Castle, standing within the town itself, with its loggias, courtyards and famous frescoes, including the "Cycle of Months" which dates back to 1400.

Buonconsiglio Castle can be the first stage in an excursion to visit some of the more interesting castles in Trentino, many of which also house museums. Within just a few kilometres of the town are for example Beseno Castle (the largest fortified building in Trentino), Rovereto Castle, Sabbionara Castle (in Avio), Pergine Castle, Telvana Castle in Borgo Valsugana, Toblino Castle (which seems to rise from the waters of Lake Toblino) and the castles in the Val di Non.
